Project Diary-Update 11 – November 24, 2008

Work on the dorm project continues, with most of the major work going on inside. The plumbers, sprinkler system installers and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) people have all completed the rough-in phase of their work. The electricians have completed work on the second floor and are now finishing up on the first floor. The insulation should be installed in the next few weeks. Guy Williams, our project supervisor, thinks we may be done with sheetrock by the end of the year! The several days of good weather have also allowed us to pour the concrete walkways (see the video clip on the What’s New page). Lots of detail work is also being done by our volunteers, including wrapping the exterior posts, blocking, final stairway framing, installation of the railing posts, etc.

A particular item for praise was the phone call I received last Thursday afternoon from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust informing us of the approval of our grant request of $180,000 for the dorm project! We were very excited and praise God for the good favor He gave us with the Murdock trustees. They are appreciative of the quality of our preparation and presentation and the diligence of our work. They also like multiplying their donations through the use of volunteers. That gift will move us much closer to the total amount of the project cost. Thanks so much for your prayers!

As we have gotten solid bids and as adjustments have had to be made to the building, our revised estimate of cost is now $1,152,500. This includes some costs that were not originally included, some increases due to cost/material increases, the addition of some items (such as a built in generator for power outages), additional site work, etc. With the Murdock gift and cash on hand, we are within about $50-60,000 of having the necessary funds to complete the project. During this time of economic uncertainty, we praise God for His generous provision!
