Project Diary-Update 13 – January 6, 2009
Even though conference activities slowed to a standstill during the Christmas break, some important work was being done on the new dorm building. D.C. Drywall Inc., a north coast sheetrock sub-contractor, was busy putting up sheetrock, taping, mudding and texturing the second floor dorm room/hallway walls. It’s amazing what a difference drywall makes to the look of the rooms! Lonnie Jensen, our conference center staff painter has been spraying on primer the past few days and will begin painting the second floor later this week. A glitch in the location of some wiring and plumbing in the first floor ceiling will delay the insulation and sheetrock installation on that floor for a few weeks while the problem is addressed. Prom Concrete, another local sub-contractor, installed the concrete curbs on the east side of the parking lot over the Christmas break as well.
With the live project webcam now limited in its view of the construction due to its stationary location, it has been exciting to see the regular video updates of the project put on our website by Carl Sandeen, our Development Manager. Be sure and check out these brief video clips for a more detailed look at the progress of the construction, both inside and out.
With good progress being made by subs, adequate funds to keep going and a good core of volunteers, we still anticipate having the new dorm building ready for use by the time our 2009 summer staff arrive in early June. There is still lots to do, so keep praying and consider coming down to volunteer!
