Project Diary Update 16 – April 7, 2009
We are definitely in the home stretch in terms of completing the new CBCC Dorm/Office Building. Over the past few weeks, a flurry of volunteers has built 20 sets of bunk beds, saving the conference center $10-12,000 over the cost of buying them new. And I have to admit, with Volunteer Coordinator and master woodworker Steve Simer overseeing the design, I think they look better and will last longer than any we could have purchased! We have installed the elevator, completing that work this week. Also done this week is the laying of second floor carpet—commercial “tiles”/squares similar to what is in the Pacific View Lodge dining room. We have found them to last extremely well compared to other types of carpet and are easier to clean. Lemons Millwork, the providers of the bath cabinets, is also building the dorm furniture at a significant savings to CBCC. That will be delivered in mid-May. With the trim and base work and finishing the setting of plumbing fixtures, the top floor will be done and ready to receive female summer staff around June 1! Once the bunk beds are moved into the rooms upstairs, the rooms downstairs where they have been constructed will receive flooring and work on the first floor office space can continue. Ecola Bible School is hoping to move into their offices during June and early July. Landscaping and exterior painting will continue during the summer.
We thank the Lord that we are very near having all the funds necessary to completely finish the dorm. The final $60,000 grant payment from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has been requested and should be received in late May. We are asking those with outstanding faith commitments to consider sending those funds in the next two months. It has been a wonderful thing to see the combination of planning, support, volunteers and God’s special provision bring this project to the point at which we can see a conclusion in the next few months! Thanks for your help.
