Website: Project Diary-Update 3 – February 4, 2008

Praise the Lord we were finally able to get approval for our dorm plans by the city of Cannon Beach Design Review Board in mid-December. There were no required changes in the plan, a very unusual occurrence.

The DRB approval included: a survey of the property, review of zoning, approval of the parking plan, drainage and grading, location of utilities and addition of sidewalks.  The overall design of the building was also approved, including height, dimensions, siding, color, lighting, landscaping, roofing materials, windows, doors, etc. Essentially, all external elements of the project were approved.

Our architects, Winstead & Associates, are hoping to finish detailed building drawings next week. We can then submit plans for the building permit and fire marshal approval. Firm sub-contractor bids can also be solicited.

At this point, we anticipate construction beginning in late March or early April. Site work, utility installation and grading for new parking and drainage will be the first steps.

We thank the Lord that we have about $522,000 on hand to start the project! Another $22,000 is committed in outstanding faith commitments. Once the building permit is in hand, we will be able to begin scheduling volunteer help.

Thanks for your prayers for a smooth permit process, lots of good volunteers, adequate funds, safety and a God-honoring process.
