Website: Project Diary-Update 6 – June 10, 2008
For the past week and a half concrete foundation work has proceeded on the new dorm project. It has been encouraging to see a hole in the ground being slowly transformed into the beginnings of a structure. First the pipe(conduit) had to be laid out in the ground where it would come up into the floor of the new building. Next, the footings around the perimeter of the building have been poured. This week the 2.5-3’ stem walls are being poured. After that, the concrete slab foundation will be poured, covering the entire area inside the perimeter of the stem walls. We anticipate that will take us until near the end of June.
Once the foundation is complete, framing of the structure can begin. This is where significant volunteer help can make a big difference. Steve Simer, Volunteer Coordinator, is busy now lining up these volunteers throughout the summer months.
We’re very encouraged that over $24,200 has been given toward the project in the past month. With expenses beginning to escalate, we are grateful for the generous giving of our friends.
