Website: Project Diary-Update 8 – September 25, 2008
With the summer season over and the weather changing, the dorm project is moving into the next stage of construction. Most of the summer has been taken up with framing and sheeting the exterior. These are now nearly completed. At this stage, the outline and look of the building is more evident. As usual, Steve Winstead, volunteer architect, has done a masterful job of design. Recently, plumbers have started the rough in stage of the plumbing and water and power lines/conduit have been run into the building from their sources. Some site cleanup has also been done. A volunteer crew of siding installers will be coming down the last week of September to side as much of the building as possible. Some windows have arrived and will be put in ahead of the siders. The roof will also be put on some time in the next several weeks as the final pieces of the sheeting are done. Once the building is closed in, plumbing, electrical and insulation will continue or begin.
So far we seem to be on schedule to complete the building by the first of June. While funds are being spent much more quickly now, there is still money in the bank to pay for the next few months of expenditures. We have had a good crew of volunteers available to this point and trust that will continue as we move inside. Thanks again for your prayers for people, safety and money!
