In
December 2003, the Cannon Beach Conference Center acquired
the Ecola Creek Lodge. Built in 1945, the lodge has 4
buildings, 22 non-smoking rooms, stained glass, spacious
lawns, fountains, flower gardens and a lily pond! For
fourteen years, George and Trish Kiger had owned and
operated the lodge as a cozy, quiet, family oriented
vacation motel. Situated near both the ocean and downtown
Cannon Beach, the lodge has a very loyal clientele who
appreciate its unique charms and desirable location.
When the Kigers decided to sell the lodge and escape the burden
of 24 hour responsibilities, they gave CBCC the first chance to
make an offer. As believers, the Kigers felt the lodge would be
an ideal addition to the conference center and were confident
CBCC would maintain the lodge's family friendly atmosphere.
After much prayer and consideration, an agreement was reached
between the Kigers and CBCC and ownership of the lodge was
officially turned over to the conference center December 1st,
2003. Initially, the lodge will continue to be operated as a
for-profit motel, and overflow accommodations for conferences.
Eventually, the lodge will become additional conference and
retreat lodging. By acquiring the lodge, CBCC has enhanced its
overall flexibility and ministry capacity for the future.
While the purchase of the motel should not take away financial
resources from the conference center, surplus revenues from the
operation of the lodge could be used to fund the conference
center's ministry efforts, scholarships, new programs, or
additional staffing. Also, unlike the conference center, the
Ecola Creek Lodge is available to the public for overnight
accommodations, vacations, and personal get-a-ways.
